Weepy Stories
Am I the only one who gets all teary-eyed reading stuff like this? :
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd."I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyesMy heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now.I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed and handed me half the books.Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to thinkabout college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and Iwas going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship.Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation.I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.Boy, sometimes I was jealous.Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled."Thanks," he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach..but mostly your friends... I am here to tell all of you that being afriend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile."Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth. Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way.
People have sent me so many stories like this in my email it drives me crazy because you just want to cry. Well I do, I don't know about YOU. Some people might just delete this stuff! In my teaching art class we were watching a video of a teacher who taught at a inner city school and really inspired a love of the arts in students who don't see art as useful or who can't afford to practise it. It was so sweet cause at the end students in the video were saying how he's their best teacher because he's the only one who looked past their race to see how much talent and potential they have inside. He's the only teacher who believed in them.. Anyways I started crying and had to take out my tissues to blow my nosey. Then the tears wouldn't stop so I had to leave to go to the bathroom to check if my liquid eyeliner was running down my face. I've recently started wearing liquid eyeliner cause well I don't know just wanted to experiment! I feel a little guilty deserting my Mac pencil Smolder cause I've used it for so many years. But this liquid stuff of my sister's from the Bodyshop is really working nicely. Is it time for a change? No more smudgy soft look and time for a thin precise line? Hmmm. Btw it didn't run.. hmmmm Hmmmmmmmm Hmmm HMMMMMMMMMM hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Okay, I'm not even thinking of my eyes really! I'm thinking of my Shakespeare essay on Titus Andronicus and how I don't like this play cause it's so violent but I must write my essay on it because I read it last year and I haven't gotten around to reading any of the new ones this year! I'm going to catch up on ALL my readings in December... or well at least before the final exam :D

yeah, that story makes me cry too.
i've never actually seen a bunch of kids beat up on a "nerd." but it sucks if it really does happen to someone.
wouldnt the world be a nice place if everyone was kind to others?

Hmm Becky I think I've seen it not like physically but verbally many times and I think that can sometimes hurt even more. I see it in little things while teaching - just the same kids being picked on all the times, and your heart really goes out to them cause you can see how hurt they feel but how they cover that hurt and try to act all tough. You want to help them but you don't want to embaress them more so you do useless things like change the seating plans over and over or sometimes even mark them a little easier... anything to make their lives a little more well happier..
Fu, yes I'm a random chicky. Admit that story touched you, I know it did!
My sister is watching the Real Madrid game, she's yelling out comments but sounds more like she's in serious body pain and dying. It's a little annoying.

I'd heard that story before, and I had cried when I heard it. So, reading it now, I knew what it was going to say. And I still cried!
Like Becky said, our high school wasn't like that. Overall, people were pretty nice. Not a whole lot physical/verbal attacks. Guess we were lucky.

I always get stories like this too. I wonder if they are real or if they are fake? If you are getting bullied the best thing you can do is fight back. Even if you loose they will stop. My teacher once told me a story about him when he was small. They used to call him something bad cuz he was russian. All the kids used to play hockey together and the bully cross checked him in the back. My teacher took his hockey stick and beat the hell out of him. After that day the bully didnt say one word to him. Thats the way to stop bullying.

Abigail S. are you sure it wasn't like that? I think in every school you'll find bullies, maybe not as many but still some. Kids can be very mean and it isn't always in noticeable ways. Though if you went to a high school where students didn't divide themselves into groups or there weren't any "nerds" who were looked down upon by others then that must have been nice since everyone would be equal :)
Agent, I wonder why you must always look for violent examples! Must be all the wrestling you watch! I'm surprised your teacher told you this. Teachers who say stuff like that these days lose their jobs. Did your teacher say this is what students should actually do to stop bullying? Actually you know what I'm not surprised your teacher said this afterall your high school was part of TDSB! Here in Peel we're more civilized hehe :D

Sometimes, a small act of kindness can go a long way for another person.
I've seen things like that happen. I once came to the aid of a younger kid who I saw getting bullied by a group of kids. It seemed like they kept trying to pick on the younger kid and beat him up. :(

Ya, its a nice story but it sounds fake. HOWEVER, the message is amazing! Small acts of kindness ALWAYS make a difference, like not just when someone is being bullied. Even a smile from someone on a bad day makes a difference, I find!

Fu & Sara: Well maybe a littleee fake.. see I don't know like what if I tell my bus driver story to someone and they think that's fake! Okay but sometimes things can be a little scary, I got another email and will post that one soon and tell me if that's real or fake ?!
A smile always makes a difference .. if it's not fake :D
